New growth in an old frame...

I think this vertical planter is just so clever.

It was featured in this great post on vertical planters by Poppytalk here

Is it raining with you too? Fingers crossed for sunshine tomorrow.

Dont throw the box away

When I did my post on Kyle Bean one thing that really drew me to him was his freaking fabulous logo.

And then, as sometimes happens, I was suddenly seeing these very cool interpretations of the cardboard box. Not excited yet? You should be.

First up is Gavin Worth

Yellow Birds in Reeds
The Goldfish

Second up is graypants. Good name, really good name.

Scrap Lights

Custom sizes

the Drum Light

They also have a pretty nifty little 'This is how it works' diagram

Thirdly, and this one isn't a new discovery but an old favourite. That would be Frank Gehry's Wiggle Chair.

The cardboard box, exciting now isn't it?

Wrapping it up

There really is nothing like getting a beautifully gift wrapped present. What's even better is when its not shop bought but has that delicious home made feel to it.

Woven paper gift wrap from minieco. It even comes with a tutorial, so no excuses.

I'm a big fan of this one, using old pattern paper. You can underlay it with coloured tissue paper for varying effects. There are always old patterns for sale on ebay or at car boot sales.

Use old maps, even the ones you pick up in tourist offices when you're on holiday.

Old newspapers, and make your own bows too...

This tutorial via papernstitch is as always fab link here

For all those old fire hoses out there...

Elvis and Kresse love old fire hoses. In fact they love them so much that they made this versatile material the backbone of their product range. Heres what they came up with...

Reclaimed fire hose wallet

Slider unisex belt

 Phone Holder

Wash bag, the lining of which is made from high visibility waste parachute silk.

And my favourite has to be the Messenger bag...

I love the faint traces you can see on the front flap of the marking that would have been on the fire hose.

If these picks haven't wet your appetite you can check out the rest of their range on their notonthehighstreet page here. And If you are still on the fence check this out, 50% of all profits from the Fire Hose range goes to the Fire Fighters Charity. I really want that bag. Pretty sure I know someone else who wants it too...

Tuesday has it ... All taped up

Flickr is fabulous. It can also be a very easy way to lose many an hour. But then you find work like Erika Iris Simmons and you think, now that was worth it. This very talented New York York based artist, uses old cassette tapes to create these beautiful 3 dimensional portraits.

Proof that the passing of the cassette tape into music history does not mean that it is destined for the rubbish heap. Mix tapes rejoice.

Bombs away

I have to say that I think this is one of the cleverest and well executed recycled designs I've seen in a while. The bag, by etsy seller Refind Originals, is made from a vintage bomber jacket. The lining is also from a thrift store find. I love the story that the bag carries with it, just by dint of its materials, while still looking completely professional.
