Love that style

I love this kitted bolero. Can I call it a bolero? I think yes. The pattern is traditional but the cut and shape stop it from looking like a fishermans jumper. Which I am not dissing, but I've got a waist and sometimes I like to flaunt it. So shoot me. Problem is I pulled this out of a magazine ages ago and can I remember where I found it? Hell no. Anyone have any ideas?

And yes I know I could make it but if you saw my projects in process list you would agree with me on this one.

Clippings - my style this week

I've been sorting through a lot of clippings that I have torn from magazines, newspapers and the like. Mainly fashion moments that I like, styles I dig, I keep them as a resource for when I need inspiration for my own pieces.  Thought I would share with you all my TOP 3 style loves right now.

#1 East meets west, bejewelled and metallic.

#2 Lace. I always end up using lace when I'm making clothes for myself. Love it.

#3 Now I'm not suggesting that I am about to shave half my hair off, although I do need a new hairstyle, love the gothic punk look going on here with the pearl bobby pins.

From Selby with love

People aren't just buying clothes, they're buying a lifestyle. That would be the message from clothes brand Zara in its latest collaboration with The Selby and artist Lucy Chadwick. The message is subtle but Chadwick is wearing head to toe Zara throughout the shoot. Plus its a very idyllic snapshot of the kind of life that people day dream about. What the reality is, well that's hardly the point now is it?

Sartorialise this ...

Every now and then I pop in on The Sartorialist. When I've had a particularly long day or week in the workshop, and it feels like forever since I've worn clothes that are pretty, NOT practical, this blogging gem reminds me why it is that I love to dress up. Because clothes can change everything from the way you feel to the way you walk and move.

Say what you like about Scott Schumann, the name behind the camera, but man does he take a good snap. And that's exactly what they are; these aren't studio shots or long drawn out set ups, they are a few moments of someone's day captured on camera. Albeit very well dressed someone's.
Here are my favourite 3 from the last week or so.

Its the handkerchief just peeping out of the pocket that gets me

The bird.. its just so ...well; random, what's not to love

The hats, ladies and gents, need I say any more

To Lee, with love, Nick

It does seem to be the age of the video doesn't it. I did have another post planned but when I saw this short film from Nick Knight's Showstudio I just had to share it. The film, with music by Bjork, is a love letter to the late Alexander McQueen. I think it captures perfectly the raw mix of beauty and darkness that so imbued his work and indeed McQueen himself.

If you have time you should have a ramble around the Showstudio website. Its a fascinating look at fashion through film.
