Friday says hello to 2010

I think its going to take me a while to get my head around this 2010 business. Last night was a very strange ringing in of the new year due to the water encircling the house yet again. But stranded as we were, I like to think we made the most of it.

But speaking of the new year I'm sure we all have those new year resolutions and what better place to write them down than in a brand new diary. Santa didn't bring you one I hear you say, well time to treat yourself.

As Oscar Wilde said
' I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read on the train'

This diary is a collaboration between designer Peter O'Brien and the Tramyard Gallery. It was released before Christmas in a select number of stores including Awear, where O'Brien's latest collection for the brand is on sale. It was also on sale in Kalu, Naas. The sketches are from the designers work on the costumes of the Noel Coward play Present Laughter in the Gate earlier in the year. 40€

Smythson has only recently come onto my radar. But they are by no means new kids on the block. This English company has been binding the most luxurious leather bound stationary for the most discerning of clientèle since 1887. Over the years their stationary has passed through the hands of everyone from Grace Kelly to the Queen. Normally their wears are a bit on the traditional side for my tastes not to mention expensive. And although this diary is not exempt from the latter it definitely gets my vote.

These beautiful creatures on the covers are the work of British designer Erdem. They were however part of a limited collection that was, needless to say, snapped up. So chances of getting your hands on one of these? A girl can dream. All the diaries are lined with silk from Erdems Resort 2010 collection (below)

Inside the pages are Smythsons trademark featherweight paper, that although half the weight and thickness of normal paper doesn't bleed when written on with ink. Quality.
Happy New Year everyone. See you tomorrow.
