I was struggling today to think of something to write about, my problem is usually the other way around. Too many things too little time. But then I remembered that age old cliche
'A picture is worth a thousand words'
The origins of the saying is sometimes attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte
'Un bon croquis vaut mieux qu'un long discours'
A good sketch is better than a long discussion
So in response here are some of my favourite moments captured on camera by one of my favourite portrait photographers, Annie Leibovitz.
Mikhail Baryshnikov and Rob Besserer
Leibovitz is one of my favourite photographers, her pursuit of perfection, her use of light and her ability to really get to the heart of a subject have made her the photographer of choice for everyone from Rolling Stone to Vanity Fair over the years.
Leibovitz's photograph of her partner Susan Sontang
-some people criticise her for being too controlling of her subjects and it is true that those iconic images of, for example a heavily pregnant Demi Moore naked on the cover of Vanity Fair, are staged to maximise their impact on the viewer, but her more personal photographs like the one above remind us of her heart, and her skill as a photographer.
